Transport in Thanjavur

  • NH-226 Extn: Thanjavur - Ariyalur - Perambalur NH-45

Roads In Thanjavur

There is intensive road network that is spread across the city and connects all places with in the city and as well as connects the city with every major city in its vicinity. The road network connects all important cities like Cheanni, Coimbatore, Tiruchirapalli, Madurai, Mysore, Ooty, Ernakulum and Tirunelveli.

Buses are quite frequent to these cities. Presently there are four bus terminuses in the city that provide to and fro service of buses to these cities these bus terminus are:
  • New Bus Stand (near Raja Serfoji College).
  • Old Bus Stand (near Anna Statue).
  • Town Bus Stand (opp. Jos alukkas jewellery shop).
  • SETC Bus Stand (behind city bus stand).

There are government and private buses running across the city providing strength to public transport. There are mini buses also that ply between various locations of the city available at old and new bus stand.

Railways in Thanjavur

Airways in Thanjavur

It was during early 1990s when Thanjavur was connected to Chennai via Vayudoot flight service but service was halted because of poor keep. The nearest air port is at about 50 Kms which is Tiruchirapalli International Airport. Air force has set up an Air Force Station at Thanjavur which stations very famous sukoi jets.
